Tottenham Hotspur wants to sign Piero Hincapie.

Tottenham have reportedly identified Piero Hincapie as the perfect fit for their defensive structure, with Bayer Leverkusen expected to ask for a high price for the player. According to Paul O'Keefe, Tottenham are ready to make a move for Hincapie in the near future. The 23-year-old South American has been seen as a great option to strengthen their defense, and Leverkusen are likely to want a big fee for him.

Hincapie was an important part of Xabi Alonso’s project at Leverkusen, which was a success over two years.

The defender played a key role at the back, as the German team won the Bundesliga by going the entire season unbeaten.

The 23-year-old South American can play as a centre-back or a left-back depending on the game, which made him a good fit in Alonso’s back-three system.

Tottenham are now interested in bringing Hincapie in, which could mean new manager Thomas Frank might look to use a three-man defensive setup.

Tottenham see Hincapie as the best option to improve the left side of their defense, even though Micky van de Ven is currently their main centre-back on that flank.

Adding Hincapie would allow Frank to change his system based on the match or opponent.

Leverkusen are likely to ask for a high fee if they sell Hincapie.
